General Information - New Drivers

In Alberta, a student can obtain their beginner class seven license at 14 years of age. Since new legislation commenced on May 20, 2003, any person obtaining a class seven license must hold same for a period of one full year before obtaining their class five driver’s license. At this time they are still subject to a two year graduated licensing period and must undergo an advanced road test prior to reclassifying to any other class of license.

We feel that the young student has a great deal to gain by attending our course even without licensing in place. We have a powerful, upbeat PowerPoint course and not the traditional monotone and whiteboard. We have many films and games for the students to play. This interaction leads to a student absorbing and retaining the knowledge and they are able to obtain their learner’s license more readily.

As soon as students have obtained their class seven license, we are able to take them out in our Jeeps. If they are 14 or 15, they can complete our course with both in-class and in-vehicle training, then continue on with their parent or co-driver until they attain the age of 16, when they can obtain their class five.

We actually prefer that they attend at this age because they learn correct habits right from the start. When a student applies these habits for a period of two to three years, they usually do not let go of them. This lends to a much better, safer class of drivers on our streets. The Alberta Transportation Graduated Driver Licensing period has been implemented for just this purpose.

We offer students 18 hours of in class instruction followed by 10 hours in our Ford Escapes. This is an insurance certification course and, upon successful completion of this course, the student will be given their certificate. The cost for this course is $630.00, plus GST. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express JCB and Interac here at the office and we will also accept a payment plan. We also offer a discount to siblings when they are ready to obtain their class five or seven.

We will also pick up and drop off within the City of Grande Prairie. For this purpose, we require a physical address as opposed to a box number or rural route. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly by phone or e-mail.

We also offer a free parent and co-driver program and encourage parents to come in and see what is available for their young driver. This practice keeps everyone “on the same page” and we have had excellent feedback from those who have attended.
We have not had any students to date that have been unsuccessful in obtaining their license. We take our business very seriously and we are here to teach students how to drive safely and courteously.

We look forward to having you in our class!
